Sermon Title: Children of Promise 

Scripture: Romans 9:6-13

  1. 9:6-9 - Abraham had two sons while Sarah was alive, but only one received the promise. (Gen.17:18-21)

    1. 9:6 - The word of God has not failed

      1. Num.23:19

    2. 9:7 - Spiritual Seed - Named - Called

      1. Rom. 8:28 - God causes all things… who are called…to His purpose.

        1. Gen. 21:12; Heb.11:18 - In Isaac 

    3. 9:8 - Children of flesh/ Children of God

      1. Regarded- [Gk. Logizomai] - to count, calculate

      2. God always intended to save a remnant.

      3. Rom.8:14 - those led by the Spirit of God are sons of God

    4. 9:9 - Abraham’s sons

      1. Gen.18:10 - Isaac chosen, not Ishmael

      2. Gen.21:17-21 - Hagar heard from an Angel of God.

  2. 9:10-13 - Isaac had two sons, but only one received the promise. 

    1. 9:10 - Isaac’s sons…conceived twins

      1. Gen. 25:21

  1. 9:11- Not yet born..according to His choice

  2. 9:12 - Older will serve the younger

  3. 9:13 - Jacob I loved, Esau I hated

    1. Mal.1:1-4

    2. This is not merely a love-less, or unloved response from God.

      1. Indignant forever…

God has to hate sin or He would be less Holy.
